Yoga – An Introduction

Debbie and Open Arms Yoga are here to help you understand how Yoga can equip you to stay balanced and more centered, better able to deal with life’s ups and downs. We would like to share with you the benefits that Yoga can bring in helping to maintain and increase Physical and Mental Health and Well-being.

With such a fast pace of life taking us over, we have forgotten how to slow down and relax and renew our energy. Yoga helps us do just that, to re-energize the whole system (a bit like charging a cars battery!)

In our classes we use the Postures (Asanas) to tone and strengthen the body, re-aligning the skeleton and re-balancing all the body’s systems. Especially strengthening and toning the whole nervous system.The postures also remove trapped physical,emotional and other subtle energies.Every cell, every muscle, every fiber of the body renews, when we naturally apply gentle pressure to different areas of the body in our postures. This keeps the physical body if practiced regularly in “Tip top” condition.

We  will explore controlled Breathing techniques to bring fresh “life energy” (we call it Prana in yoga) into the body and we absorb this energy to keep us healthy and full of vitality.

We delve deeply inside ourselves in our Meditation practice, to help calm and center the mind, keeping our mental body fit and well and functioning to the best of it’s ability.

And we use different methods of Relaxation to help reduce stress levels, keeping us emotionally well.The benefits of any movement or posture are felt in relaxation-not in the action itself.
